Packaging Life Cycle Sustainability

The environmental impact of expanded polystyrene (EPS) products are closely monitored by the EPS Industry Alliance. Recently, the EPS-IA conducted a life cycle inventory (LCI) report on EPS packaging; observing several common EPS packaging applications such as pharmaceutical, consumer electronics, white goods/appliances, corner protectors and fish, grape and wine boxes.

“Life cycle is an indispensable tool when evaluating environmental performance. Beyond recycling, life cycle analysis tells a story that reveals a material’s environmental profile from start to finish.” –EPS Infographic

The EPS-IA and its members are committed to environmental performance sustainability within the industry. We have proudly supported their efforts for decades and are confident in the forward moving direction the organization provides. This has been confirmed with the environmental results that were recently unveiled.

In an effort to help everyone clearly understand the value of life cycle, EPS-IA has created infographics to effectively show the comparison between EPS life cycle impacts and regular daily activities. Visually, this allows connections to be drawn in relation to global warming, recycling and non-renewable energy use impact.
