In the state of Wisconsin, October is Manufacturing Month. On a national level, the first Friday of October is celebrated as National Manufacturing Day. Consequently, Wisconsin is not the only state to decide to celebrate the whole month, but it is understandable that it places such importance on manufacturing. According to the National Association of Manufacturing, manufacturers employ nearly 17% of the state’s labor force and account for 19% of its GDP.
Unsurprisingly in a state that places such high importance on cheese, beer and brats, the largest manufacturing sector in Wisconsin is food, beverage and tobacco. In 2019, this sector alone accounted for $9.7 million in produced goods. Throughout the state there are more than 19,400 manufacturing companies that together produce $59 billion in output annually.
Sheboygan County, where Plymouth Foam is located, is no slacker – at either the state or national levels. In fact, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Sheboygan County has the third highest percentage of its workforce employed in manufacturing in the nation. Manufacturing jobs account for 33.1% of employment in the county: meaning nearly one third of the county works in manufacturing jobs!
Ohio also celebrates October as Manufacturing Month! Our Ohio Plymouth Foam team works in Gnadenhutten, located in Tuscarawas County, on the eastern side of the state. In Tuscarawas County, roughly a quarter of the population works in manufacturing. In the state as whole, 12.74% of the population is employed at a manufacturing company, with chemical manufacturing being its largest sector.
