Airpop® makes its debut in North America.
Commonly known as expanded polystyrene (EPS), Plymouth Foam, Inc. is excited to announce its induction into the airpop® family (a EUMEPS, European Market, initiative)! Plymouth Foam is the only company in North America authorized to use the airpop® brand as a result of our affiliation with Schaumaplast GmbH & Co. KG.
Why the name change of EPS to airpop®?
A well-known fact about airpop® is it’s engineered with air…98% to be exact. We can’t think of a better name for this product and the future it will bring towards the brand; it’s fun, engaging and relevant. With the introduction of this name change to the United States, the goal is to address negative and misleading information about EPS (‘airpop®’).
- Can be fabricated or molded precisely to any specified shape
- Light and easy to transport
- Reliably protects from impact and pressure
- Excellent price to performance ratio
How airpop® evolved:
“Back in 1949 Dr. Fritz Stastny, a scientist working at BASF in Germany, invented expanding polystyrene, aka EPS. When the pearl-shaped raw material is brought into contact with steam it expands to around 40 times its original size. It can then be moulded during subsequent processing. This means that airpop® consists largely of air. 98 percent to be exact. EPS has been known under a variety of names over the years. For example, styrofoam, polystyrene and foam packaging. Now the material has a new standardized name: airpop® engineered air.”
